The Moll-ster & gardens & other updates

The cat thermometer has spoken - it must be winter. The Moll-ster has just started sleeping on my bed, her winter spot. No idea where she sleeps the rest of the year.

Just think, only days ago she was doing her impression of a plant - albeit, one ready for picking...

Speaking of plants - the last of my, admittedly small, tomatoes are being eaten. They taste very yummy! The biggest was 165 grams! Here is one, cut up and served on bread, made by myself - so domestic (if only that extended to being house-'trained' and actually doing housework)...

Oh well, maybe in my next life.

And - I've seen bunnies in Western Springs the last couple of Saturdays! Yay!

The shower is all fixed! No more dealing with the way-of-the-wood method of drip control...

Simple joys. And that's what life is made up of - it's not the big things, it's all those little things that make up our every day, that make our every days worth it.

Tomato beauty

My first ripe tomato! It weighs 100grams (yes I weighed it). Shame my lettuces have bolted and I can't eat them with my tomato.

Mary, Mary update #3

Here you go... my garden a few days ago. It's hard to believe how tall the tomato plants have grown since this photo was taken!
I have been eating lettuce most days... and giving it away!
I've used the 'aerial burial' method of caterpillar control [thanks to the ex-flattie for the phrase - I said 'altitude method']... ie threw the caterpillar off the balcony.
Yet again, my lavender is suffering - I can't keep them alive.

Knitting & gardening update

Okay - am changing the recommended ply size on my bag pattern... rather than 8-ply, try bigger - like 10-ply+. I used fancy yarn, so it's hard to tell.

And gardens - I SAW the evil Moll-ster peeing in my garden. I was right! Tonight I see myself sticking skewers into the polystyrene as a deterrent... Although, that said, maybe it is better she pees in there rather than every single patch of carpet in my lounge. I am dreading my next flat inspection. It is getting worse...

Mary, Mary update #2

This is my garden last week... now the tomatoes are just about tall enough to be tied. The observant may note that there are less plants than previously. This is NOT due to my suckiness at gardening, but because the ex-flattie took some for his garden. Never thought I'd see the day.

I am, however, suspicious that some plants are smaller and yellower than the others. Because they're all together, I feel this may be related to the where the Moll-ster's dirt accessories have come from...

Mary, Mary update

Here you go - all planted up - with a piece of trellis ready for the tomatoes to grow up [and, incidentally, to stop the neighbour's cats from jumping onto my balcony, and the neighbours from leaning over the gap and tapping on my ranchslider...]

Mary, Mary quite contrary, how does your garden grow?

Quite well, actually. Much to my surprise. My black thumb isn't in evidence... so far... I still have the issue of replanting my little seedlings into their big garden (a polystyrene box to go on the balcony)... but here is photographic proof of my seedlings and their growth... little mesclun mix & tomatoes. Starting small...

Hiya Hoya

Meet one of the best buys of my life...
Years ago - about 25, I think (which dates me terribly!) - at my old primary school fete I bought a sad little plant with 2 leaves for 20 cents. It looked like it needed love and attention. Over the years it has received this care - my mum, and now my flatmate have looked after it well (I have black fingers, not green) and now...
