Friday favs...

It's cricket season... which brings to mind one of the best ever sessions of cricket I can remember.

I remember the contest. And the doggedness of the player. The determination to do his part for team. I remember watching every ball. Watching him NOT get out. Watching him batting for time - to save the innings and the test. I remember my mum, dad & I cheering each and every dot ball. I remember my uncle saying it was boring. But it wasn't. It was real cricket.

What I couldn't remember was the player... but a friendly workmate did remember.

So, today - a link to an article about Geoff Allott's [then - possibly still] world-record for longest innings without scoring a run.

It's moments like those which makes me sit and watch cricket for days on end. Or keep an eye on cricinfo... like today.

I'm nearly 'normal' (at least, health-wise)... thanks to all for your messages. I have bronchitis, but am on drugs now.
Am in Wellington & Palmy for most of the week.
Will update more seriously later this week.

Not very how...

Eeyore was very glad to be able to stop thinking for a little, in order to say "How do you do" in a gloomy manner to Pooh.
"And how are you?" said Winnie-the-Pooh. Eeyore shook his head from side to side. "Not very how," he said. "I don't seem to felt at all how for a long time."

Yes, I still have a bug - but am back at work for a while, anyway...

Additions to my library

Ive' been adding to my personal library...
Thanks to loyal follower Philip - I have my very own copy of Blueberry girl.
I've just bought The word witch - a glorious book to spend time with.
And, The graveyard book by Neil Gaiman. Last March I reviewed M is for magic - which included the story "The witch's headstone". I had read it before, in another collection, and thought there must be more about Bod. And there is. The graveyard book has won awards all over the place.
Yay... happy bookcase with more books...

PS - last night had my flat inspection. My mother was visiting and overheard the landlords discussing the fact I have no bed in the spare room. Of course I don't - there would be no room for the bookcases then! Sheesh...

Friday favs

Yes, on Saturday...
On nights with little to watch on TV, I've been watching Doctor Who episodes - mostly series three with David Tennant.
It reminded me of a discussion with a friend about our favourite episodes. Mine keep changing, depending on which one I've just watched!
I've previously said it was "Love and monsters". Also, very sad... However, I've just re-watched "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood". They are so sad. The Doctor is just human, with the possibility of love and family. And he has to give it up.
My friend voted for "The Girl in the Fireplace" as his most touching episode.

Scariest? "Blink" and "Silence in the Library" - the sequel to which has the sad bit of Donna just missing Lee.

What about you?

In which we learn the value of questions...

Just got my latest power bill and I'm so happy. Yes, happy that I have a bill...

To explain. I moved into the flat in June. Got my first power bill... and almost collapsed. There's me & my cat. Yes, I had had two heaters and an electric blanket. But I wasn't profligate in my usage of power. At least, I didn't think so.
Amounts rounded up/down to nearest $5
June: $325 - meter read
July: $230 - estimated
August: $255 - meter read.
At which point I contacted the landlord to have the hotwater checked... since then...
September: $85 - meter read. And smart meter installed.
October: $60...
See - bills can make you happy!

PS - while the plumber was on the roof fixing my hotwater overflow, he noticed three other units had overflowing water. The unit next door was getting bills up to $800 a month! Why the hell they didn't have anything checked earlier I have no idea!

Today's music mix is...

Hit random and see what comes up... this morning, a tribute to my past... Yesterday's random selection was all reasonably modern... oddness. Anyhoo - back to work...

More memories

Ok - proving I was a teen in the 80s, and a Westie one at that...

Something for fun...

Seeing Keith's t-shirt at work made me think of this...
