Caturday... sleeping arrangements

So, it's summer. And hot at night. So why is it NOW that the Mollster decides to sleep with me (luckily, not ON me, which Erika's fluffy cat does - and only in summer).

Now, Mollster isn't just sleeping on my bed - but usually, curled up by my knees. This makes it diffcult to throw off the blankets when it get hots - which it does. You know what it's like - cold, hot, cold, hot... repeat wild temperature variations throughout the night.

Now, in winter - I have no idea where the Mollster sleeps. 'Cos it sure as heck isn't with me!!! Which, if I was in charge, it would be. Come on - non-moving blankets, electric blanket... what's not to like???

Cat-urday: boxes

Now, Simon's cat may like to hide in boxes - and so might Eve Sutton's famous cat (a classic book!)...

But - my cat likes to hide in cupboards. Or, she did when she was young. Or bookcases... or behind the washing machine. Anything but a box.

Monkey meets the Moll-ster

Monkey hasn't met a cat before - dogs yes, cats no. [That could possibly explain the 'woo-woo' coming out of her mouth... yep, possibly talking! Heard a 'daddy' as well]...

And that's when we stopped the chase so Monkey didn't head off down the stairs in pursuit of the Moll-ster. The Moll-ster managed to stick to the edges of the room, and had escape routes, so she was cool with the whole thing.

Mouse-capades

So, anyway, a few months ago I got the roasting pan out of the oven warming drawer only to see itty-bitty mouse droppings. Having seen no other evidence of rodent invasion, I did what (most) single females would do - washed the pan, and stored it elsewhere. Hey, the mouse/mice weren't actually doing any harm. Trust me, there is ample opportunity - cat bikkies left out for easy consumption, etc.

And that, I thought, was the end of it.

The Mollster obviously thought differently as, last night, I was met by an itty-bitty dead mouse on my hall floor. Again, my single girlness took over and I left it alone overnight. Just to be sure it really was dead.

This morning - better prepared for dealing with my present - I scooped it up with the cat litter spade-y thing, onto junk mail - and threw it out the front door, into the longer grass (cut so that the neighbour's bunny has outside food). That way some other poor person has to deal with the dead mouse their cat will present to them. There are a LOT of cats in my area.

So, the Mollster got to demonstrate her innate catness, even while under permanent house arrest. Yay for the Mollster!

There's truth in LOL-land

Yes, and when they're old, too. I'd hate to think I was the only cat 'owner' to do things like leave the ranchslider ajar (to aid coming and going of the Moll-ster), and have the heater on full-blast to counteract the cold air.
I am also known to sit uncomfortably so that the Moll-ster can sit on her site (my footstool). That said, if she's stupid enough to sit on my knee when I'm reading - she will be used as a book/page leaning tool.
By the way... ever noticed how they manage to sit on your knee, just as you're thinking in the next ad break I'll get up and...?

More on cat training

Following on from yesterday's video...

The Moll-ster has me so well trained that I have the ranchslider open - so she can go onto the balcony whenever she wishes.

As my chair is beside the ranchslider - this isn't that comfortable in winter. So, I have the heater on and placed between me and the open ranchslider - with curtains over the ranchslider to try and block out some of the draft.

This, of course, means that I sometimes have to get up and move the curtain aside to PROVE the door is open.

Oh, and I have to leave a blanket over my footstool, so she can sit on the stool. She won't if there is no blanket...

The joys...

For cat owners

Ain't this the truth?

The Moll-ster has trained me well - although I try to break conditioning sometimes. And I regret it later.

The Moll-ster & gardens & other updates

The cat thermometer has spoken - it must be winter. The Moll-ster has just started sleeping on my bed, her winter spot. No idea where she sleeps the rest of the year.

Just think, only days ago she was doing her impression of a plant - albeit, one ready for picking...

Speaking of plants - the last of my, admittedly small, tomatoes are being eaten. They taste very yummy! The biggest was 165 grams! Here is one, cut up and served on bread, made by myself - so domestic (if only that extended to being house-'trained' and actually doing housework)...

Oh well, maybe in my next life.

And - I've seen bunnies in Western Springs the last couple of Saturdays! Yay!

The shower is all fixed! No more dealing with the way-of-the-wood method of drip control...

Simple joys. And that's what life is made up of - it's not the big things, it's all those little things that make up our every day, that make our every days worth it.

The aftermath of the flying cat episode

Following on from the Moll-ster vanishing off the balcony...

The ex-flattie asked how she was, and I said she was fine - but the solar light she possibly landed on, wasn't so good. His text reply was brilliant - landing lights?

Here is the evidence...

Molly looking at the upside-down & broken top of the solar light...
And - if you look carefully - the metal pole on the roof opposite mine... That I'm NOT blaming Molly for...

The adventures of the Moll-ster

As you may know, the Moll-ster has been trapped inside, peeing everywhere, since the infamous vet visit.
She escaped once, while I was putting out the rubbish, but I walked around outside with her, until a neighbour made a loud noise & she ran back inside.
Yesterday, however, she outdid herself.
If I'm home, I leave the ranchslider open to the balcony, so she can feel like she's outside*. After my nana nap during the afternoon#, I couldn't find her anywhere‬‬‬‬‬‬♠. I went outside to bring the recycling bin back, and thought I'd heard her... and there was the suspicious state of the solar light in the garden below the balcony☼. Went back inside, wandered around calling for her - to hear her calling back - from outside...
Such an adventure for an old lady! Either she flew, or jumped onto trellis between my garden & next door's - or just fell off●.
Last night was spent picking bidi-bids out of her fur. She's very fluffy...
Hopefully this will have cured her of the need for adventure... but I still feel guilty keeping her inside▪.

*and can pee in the garden...
#I feel no weekend is complete without at least one nana nap
‬‬‬‬‬‬♠and there's not a lot of 'anywhere' to search
☼ie fallen over in pieces‬‬‬‬‬
●a possibility, as I've seen her almost fall off the balcony, due to her propensity to sit right on the edge, and then roll around cleaning herself...

▪but, not quite guilty - or brave - enough to try out the cat harness I've borrowed from my sister!‬‬‬‬‬

Knitting & gardening update

Okay - am changing the recommended ply size on my bag pattern... rather than 8-ply, try bigger - like 10-ply+. I used fancy yarn, so it's hard to tell.

And gardens - I SAW the evil Moll-ster peeing in my garden. I was right! Tonight I see myself sticking skewers into the polystyrene as a deterrent... Although, that said, maybe it is better she pees in there rather than every single patch of carpet in my lounge. I am dreading my next flat inspection. It is getting worse...

Update on the Mollster

Here she is... demanding attention...
Molly is doing well. She's not entirely sure about this 'inside cat' thing. I'm going to have to watch her weight as she's not exercising now, but is insisting on eating the same amount.
And she is making craftwork even more difficult than before - now EVERY night she is in my face - literally - demanding attention. All while I'm trying to knit a blanket for the ex-flatmate's baby... Oh, and work on my Bead Challenge entry.
So, following on from the general Cat Pee Wars... all up, the territorial dispute has cost nearly $600.
On the plus side - there's no marking going on now Molly is the only cat allowed in the house!
But, this morning her insistence on staying on the balcony (after I'd been out for a cigarette) left me running late for work, and I forgot to bring my books back to the library!

A week in the life... (not for the squeamish)

of me and my cat, Molly...
Last Monday I took photos of Molly enjoying the sun.
On Friday, I followed my usual morning routine... up at 5.30am, up the stairs to fed the Molly-ster & have a smoke... and was greeted with this lovely sight
So, texted my mother to see if she was available to take us to the vet; texted the sister up the road to see if I could borrow the cat cage... checked when the vet opened, and then sat and patted her for an hour until Mum arrived. Oh, and texted the boss to say I might make it in; oh, and Ana, to say I wouldn't make it for coffee that morning.
Off to the vet! And, so I stop feeling guilty that this is all because I moved her somewhere with horrible cats that invade her space... she was last at the vet's 3 years ago with a cat bite wound or two, one in her ear...
My mum isn't necessarily that fond of Molly (Molly is very vocal & demanding), but Mum was worried. This was not the normal behaviour of my Mollwoll... No cat cage to the vet's, she just lay quiet in my arms, wrapped in a towel, with very little noise or movement. We didn't think the vet had taken her temperature, she just lay like a fluffy slipper on the bench and didn't move or make a noise.
Check up... abscess... operation pending... small heart murmur... but kidneys and teeth and gums all fabulous. Not bad for nearly 13. Home, waiting by the phone...
Go to pick her home. She claws her way out of the cat cage and stumbles, drunkenly, up the stairs straight to her food bowl, and glared at me, because she couldn't reach her food... hence the temporary dining arrangements as below.

The rest of the weekend was spent quite uncomfortably. My big sister visited her on Saturday, while I was at work, and got trapped patting her - yes, the needy cat - but Molly was distracted by new food put out... always works.
She didn't navigate well with the collar on - was more inclined to bump into things and then give up, rather than negotiate her way around obstacles... But she did do a great Snoppy Vulture impression over the weekend!
Then, back to the vet's yesterday to have everything removed. That time, she leapt from the cage and ran & hit under my bed. Finally, she was able to clean herself...
So, back to normal - I can stop having to lift her on and off furniture, and move stuff out of her way (oh, and gross bit - trim dried poo off her fluff, because she hasn't been able to clean herself all weekend...)
Thank goodness! I am so NOT cut out to be a nurse to any creature. But now I have the unenviable task of turning my outdoors cat into an indoors cat, with supervised outside visits.
